MARCH 2022 — With spring break mysteriously being held a week later than previous years, the semester has started to resemble a game of attrition. That's why I was especially grateful to be honored at Clemson Football's P.A.W Journey Faculty Appreciation Night event.

The event should really be called "Faculty Appreciation Day," but that's just the editor in me. We started at 3:30 p.m. and watched the first high-octane scrimmage of the spring season. I almost got pancaked a few times standing on the sidelines. Then we had some programming and a dinner. It was pretty informative.

At the college level, I can say for certain that football players and their support network are anything but dumb. The schematics and plays that folks at Clemson run are complex and impressive, requiring vast amounts of memorization and attention to detail from the players on the field and their coaches and helpmates.

I'm nowhere close to an expert, but I have newfound respect for America's second favorite past time. The players have the most intense militaristic schedule you can imagine. If you have 10 minutes of free time in your day that's 9 minutes more than these college football players and employees get.
